At A Scintillation of Scions V, I (Curly) presented a paper entitled The Validation of the Internet Fandom: Bridging the Gap Between Traditional Fandom and the Age of Tumblr. It was very well received and made a lot of people cry (gyah sorry!). My heart sort of swelled as I walked back to my seat and kept getting stopped, Sherlockians new and old thanking me, telling me how fantastic it was, and that they were so proud and pleased. I hadn't felt like I had done anything monumental or extraordinary, but after awhile I realized that maybe I had done something important.

So, here is the paper in its entirety, as well as the recording from the actual presentation (so I can prove people laughed and clapped!) I hope you like it.

Set after The Great Game, but before Series 2, Sherlock Holmes takes on a new case, one that at first seems quite simple and easy to manage.
But one thing leads to another, and soon he and John Watson are involved in a dangerous, complex mystery, unsure who is pulling at the strings.

Instructions for use

1. Download the *.rar on the right. You need winrar (or equivalent) to extract the file.

2. Extract the whole folder somewhere and open the *.exe to start.

3. If you don't have the fonts included, right click to install. But I think they're pretty common fonts.

In-Game instructions

Control is through the mouse.

To exit, navigate to the main menu and quit, or press F12 from wherever you are.

Saving/Loading isn't supported, and anyway the story isn't long enough to make that worthwhile.

Notes

• This is windows only and an updated DirectX is required to see everything properly. The dll problem is to do with DirectX.
• I advise against saving/reloading, that's what the chapters are for.
• I advise against playing fullscreen. Bad stuff may happen.

We know we are late to the party on this one, but we just discovered it and were instantly in love. This is so much fun and has some lovely nods to the canon in it! There are three endings you can end up getting. Naturally, on our first try, we got the most depressing one. Way to go Ardy.

Episode 7: Villains, Bad Guys, & Adversaries

In the great battle of nefarious naughty boys, will Charles August Milverton or Professor Moriarty prove victorious? Babes Curly, Ardy, Jenn, & Kafers tackle the villains of the Sherlock Holmes world in this chatty and slightly cracky episode. We talk about everyone from darling Milvy to dark and dastardly Stapleton to maybe sympathetic Jefferson Hope.

Moriarty, of course, gets his time to shine as we talk about the various incarnations of his character including BBC Sherlock's Andrew Scott and the slightly corpse-like Russian version. On a scale of one to ten, how likely is this John Watson to shoot a tiger? Oh, don't know what we're talking about? Well, obviously you need to listen!

There is a fun new song about Moriarty at the end by the ever so talented Caitlin Obom, and MAJOR thanks to everyone who sent in questions and comments. Enjoy! MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

PORTRAITS OF CELEBRITIES

This is seriously the People Magazine portion of the issue, and it is too cool.  Sir Francois Gounod, W. S. Penley, Sir Lyon Playfair, and J. E. Muddock (F. R. G. S.) are a few of them.  Is there a name cooler than Lyon Playfair?  Is it reasonable to suggest that a man be named this?  I put it to you. 

Then follows "The Adventure of the Noble Bachelor."  Too cool for school.  Not my favorite case ever to happen, of course, but I love the snarky exchange between Lestrade and Holmes about dragging the basin of the Trafalgar Square fountain.  Holmes is such a tease.

Followed by BEAUTY IN NATURE, which is apparently part III of a series, and is covering the territory RIVERS AND LAKES, the argument being that they are natural and beautiful.  The author has a pretty easy time proving this point.

Then there's a story called THE QUEER SIDE OF THINGS, a fanciful tale in which a man's body parts (nose, leg, etc.) keep inexplicably disappearing.
